About the brand
Founded in 1971 by Gérard and Danièle Darel, Gérard Darel, the house shoppers increasingly know simply as Darel, has dressed generations of French women in refined, wearable pieces: soft tailoring, quality leathers, dresses and knits built on cut and fabric rather than logos. The brand occupies a distinctly French position, accessible luxury with genuine wardrobe intelligence, famous for moments like the 24h bag yet defined less by its icons than by consistency: clothes women return to season after season because they simply work. Darel sells through boutiques and department-store corners across France and internationally, alongside an e-commerce operation serving a customer who is loyal, discerning and precise about fit. She is, in many ways, the most demanding kind of online shopper: experienced enough to know exactly how she wants a jacket to sit and a dress to fall, and unimpressed by anything on the product page that fails to help her get there.
Challenge
Gérard Darel's shopper knows exactly how she wants clothes to fall, and a size chart can't have that conversation. In boutique, the sale is closed by a dialogue: a vendeuse who knows the cuts, reads how a customer likes to wear her tailoring, and steers between sizes accordingly, down for a sharper shoulder, up for ease over a knit. Online, that dialogue vanished, replaced by a measurement table that speaks in centimetres to a customer who thinks in silhouette. The consequences were familiar but corrosive for a fit-led house: hesitation between two adjacent sizes, the signature doubt of experienced shoppers, abandoned baskets at the size selector, and two-sizes-ordered behaviour that turned confidence problems into returns costs. For a brand whose entire equity is that its clothes fit real women's lives, losing the fitting-room conversation at the exact moment of decision was losing the thing that made the sale.
Solution
Darel went live with Kleep in June 2025, turning every product page into the fit consultation the boutique always offered. The shopper answers a few questions, or takes the two-photo body scan for a measurement-grade profile, and each piece then returns a calibrated recommendation reflecting its actual cut: the soft blazer, the fluid dress and the fitted knit each answered on their own construction, with the between-two-sizes question settled the way a good vendeuse would settle it. The interface is white-labelled to Darel's understated elegance, present at the moment of choice and invisible otherwise, with recommendations served in under 250 milliseconds. The effect restores the house's commercial signature to its digital storefront: quiet, competent fit advice, delivered person by person and piece by piece, the boutique conversation happening silently at the size selector, where it was always needed most.
